Illustrative Mathematics is a problem-based curriculum
meaning students need to make sense of the mathematics first before being shown
or told what to do. Based on conceptual understanding, IM uses high-level tasks
to elicit student thinking. With this student thinking, the IM curriculum then
uses the process of synthesizing information to help students make sense of
their new learning. This curriculum provides * Vertical alignment (K-HS) * Supports for
English Learners and Students with Disabilities built into the teacher notes *
Student-friendly goals and learning targets before and after each lesson to
focus learning. * Diagnostic and End-of-Unit Assessments, as well as Mid-Unit
assessments for longer units. * Instruction Routines that promote a culture of
learning and growth mindset Each day of training focuses on the main components
of implementing a new curriculum: Day 1: A Focus on the Resource - A Look at
the Curriculum and its Coherence Day 2: A Focus on Pedagogy - Implementing the
Curriculum Day 3: A Focus on Planning - Getting Ready for Unit 1"
