WDMESC: Strategic Communications for Interacting with Juvenile



School resource officers and school personnel spend much of their daily activities in communication with students. This course will provide participants with a foundation in strategically communicating with juveniles. Topics covered include using active listening skills, rapport building, verbal judo, teen brain development and de-escalation tactics for use in dealing with conflict.

INSTRUCTOR: OFFICER PHIL BLAYLOCK has been in law enforcement for over 20 years and currently serves as a school resource officer for the Morrilton Police Department. He started his law enforcement career with the Conway County Sheriff Office. Along with being a certified law enforcement instructor, he also is a part time firefighter for the Morrilton Fire Department. He also has attended EMT school and assists the local ambulance service on various calls. Phil Blaylock also holds several positions on local county boards including 100 Proof (underage drinking and driving) and FEMA. He is also a certified Crisis Negotiator along with being an Active Shooter instructor. In 2013, he was awarded the Conway County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Mr. Blaylock has also served on the LEPC (local emergency preparedness committee) for over 10 years and has conducted several Crisis Plan workshops with his school district.
