The internet is one of the single biggest factors affecting our children and their safety in society today. We need to understand why, and what affect it has on students' learning and beyond. Teen Internet usage and attitudes about safety present potential risks, but also opportunities for education and a role for watchful parents and guardians. We will discuss predators, the truth behind who they are and what they are doing to groom children. We will cover Internet Safety; risky behaviors such as sharing too much information online, sexting, and dangerous apps. We will discuss what Arkansas law says about sexting and what should be done when it's discovered for everyone’s protection and what Arkansas law says regarding sex trafficking and why it’s critically important for those in education environments. Upon completion of this training, you will be able to: Understand the different types of technology used by children and teens, including devices and apps, Recognize the differences between the digital age and the world that adults experienced while growing up, Focus on a proactive approach to digital safety that includes communication, setting guidelines, and digital citizenship training, Understand the most common online issues that children and teens are likely to face such as cyberbullying, “sexting,” and online predators, Address the legal aspects of all of these topics and learn how to address each of these issues with best practices, Understand our role in helping victims navigate trauma after the incident has occurred, and what resources are available to aid you in the process.
