CRESC--GPS: Exemplar Science Units Supporting FIRST GRADE Literacy
This live, online or in-person, workshop will introduce FIRST GRADE teachers to an exemplar grade-specific science unit of study intended to be implemented into the literacy block. Through this professional learning, educators will experience how phenomenon-based science instruction can support nonfiction vocabulary and text within the literacy block. K-2 units will include phonics/phonemic awareness, science informational text, and the analysis of student work samples. The purpose of this exemplar unit is to serve as an example of what high-quality instructional material in science resembles. This session will provide the knowledge necessary to identify opportunities to integrate science and literacy and identify essential components that could be missing from existing materials. This professional learning supports the PLC process.
