WDMESC: GPS: Exemplar Science Units Supporting 2nd Grade Literacy- Virtual

This online workshop will introduce SECOND GRADE teachers to an exemplar grade-specific science unit of study intended to be integrated into the literacy block. Through this professional learning, educators will experience how phenomenon-based science instruction can support the use of nonfiction vocabulary and text within the literacy block. The unit will include phonics/phonemic awareness, science informational text, and the analysis of student work samples. The purpose of this exemplar unit is to serve as an example of a high quality instructional material in science. This session will provide the knowledge necessary to identify opportunities to integrate science and literacy, and identify essential components that could be missing from existing materials. This professional learning supports the PLC process. This virtual session is a state-wide session presented by specialists from three cooperatives.
