DSC NarcanTraining/Dose of Reality
This class will train School Nurses on the proper procedure used to administer Narcan. This class will also go over Dose of Reality. DOSE OF REALITY (DOR) is a Preventive Educational Program for ages 12 and up regarding opioid abuse, misuse and addiction. Opioid abuse and misuse affects everyone. DOR provides steps on how to help and avoid addiction to prescription painkillers. This program covers the following:*The Definition of Opioid, *Prescription Painkillers: Opioids, Depressants, Stimulants, *Non-Opioid Painkillers: Analgesics, Muscle Relaxers, *NSAIDS, Steroids, Topical Anesthetics, *Prescription Painkiller Abuse, *Signs of Addiction: Physical and Behavioral; Risk Factors, *Dose of Reality Facts: Arkansas Data, *The Good Samaritan Law, * Understanding What We Can Do, *Medication Disposal. Additional Resources and information such as how elderly and chronic pain patients may be put at risk for misuse (i.e. not taking their medication as directed or theft if the medication is not secured properly) are also included. DOR has been delivered statewide in schools, communities, and also during regional faith-based summits. A course evaluation along with pre and post surveys are collected to measure the impact of DOR and knowledge of participants. Revisions are being made to DOR based on a market research audit that was done by ADH Communications. Once approved, the revised version of DOR will be released for implementation.
