Join us for this day of hands-on, K-12 Art experiences and collaboration among peers.
This morning session will start with a visual walk through of the Elementary Art room with discussions revolving around: Classroom Management and Organization to provide positive student behavior and other essentials to help your art classroom run as smoothly as possible. We will view how our “Specialty Area PLC Team” incorporated vocabulary instruction to increase student’s DOK, discuss strategies to sharpen and strengthen instruction and look at formative assessment and data collection to guide further teaching (RISE). For the hands-on experiences, participants will create 3D wire figural sculptures showing movement (4-12). If time allows, we will take a quick peak at the SUBmarine station, select a lesson from those provided and create a finished example(s) for your substitute binder or you use the resource as a quick mini-lesson (K-5).
For the afternoon session, teachers will transition to the High School Fine Art building for a fun packed time exploring the High School Art room. Beginning discussions will revolve around Art Therapy which can be a way to boost a student’s self-esteem by giving a voice to their struggles or as a tool to help with physical disabilities. After a guest speaker talks about local opportunities for Art Therapy, you will be encourage to create your own piece of art using an Art Therapy prompt. To finish off the day, we will explore how to use social media to promote our schools and kids artistically. We would also like to engage in collaboration, by encouraging participants to bring a favorite project or website to be shared with the group.
