AFESC-New Standards, HQIM, Tier 1 Instruction, and Science of Reading - What Administrators Need to Know about Curriculum Requirements in Literacy K-12

As an administrator, are you confused by all of the requirements needed in literacy instruction? We have all learned about the importance of the Science of Reading, but ensuring that teachers have the best materials to deliver quality Tier 1 instruction that is aligned with the Science of Reading can be confusing. In this session, we will discuss the latest research on the importance of having a background knowledge-building plan and how it applies to literacy instruction each day in K-12 classrooms. We will also discuss the role of high quality instructional materials (HQIM), how to ensure you are providing resources for your teachers, and what administrators need to be looking for in classrooms. We will also address the new standards for ELA that all teachers will be implementing next year, as well as the new assessment. If you want to know more about how you can best support Tier 1 instruction and your teachers in literacy, then this is the session for you!

This session will address instructional strategies most appropriate for the following levels of instruction:

Tier 1
