The overall aim of this session is to build capacity in educators to provide meaningful access and learning experiences for all learners. There is a focus on instructional practices and methods that support comprehension and scaffolding language. The intent is for educators to add to their toolkit of techniques and resources that scaffold instruction for English Learners (ELs) and other learners who need it, and for coaches and administrators to be able to support this.
1. Participants will learn basic terminology and acronyms related to ESOL and become familiar with the process for identifying English Learners and gain essential knowledge about compliance with federal regulations.
2. Participants will examine key principles of effective lessons for English Learners.
3. Participants will participate in activities aligned to high-yield practices when instructing ELs and reflect on how they can use them in their own classrooms.
