This workshop is designed specifically for WDMESC Novice Teachers to reinforce teaching deeply according to the intent of their state standards. Novices will spend the day in this training alongside their WDMESC-provided mentor. Mentors will be on hand to reinforce the learning connections between the content presented and the content the novice currently teaches. Connections will also be made to the new Cambium Assessment.
Deconstructing Depth of Knowledge: A Method and Model for Deeper Teaching and Learning
Depth of Knowledge continues to be a focus and priority in education. However, if your understanding of DOK as a concept and framework is cloudy, you’re not alone. In this workshop, you will learn how Depth of Knowledge measures the cognitive rigor of academic standards, curricular activities, and assessment items.
You will also learn how the DOK levels can be used to plan and provide teaching and learning experiences that are standards based, socially and emotionally supportive, and student responsive. Most importantly, you will learn how Depth of Knowledge clarifies what exactly students must learn and how deeply they must understand and use their learning to demonstrate proficiency and perform successfully.
