AFESC-Brain Basics for Behavior: Tips for New Teachers

Pain-based behaviors linked to chronic stress and unhealed trauma are highly present in classrooms, leaving new educators feeling a heavy amount of overwhelm and uncertainty. In this session, you will learn about how brains grow from childhood to teenage years and how adverse experiences and screen time during early development impact their behavior in the school setting. Discover how feelings, thinking, and actions are connected, and get practical tips for helping yourself and your students handle their emotions and stress better in order to prevent disruptive behaviors from recurring. You will also learn more about how to empower yourself as the authority of your classroom while establishing personal boundaries between yourself and the behaviors of your students.

This session will address instructional strategies most appropriate for the following levels of instruction:

Tier 1, 2, 3
