This 6 hour professional learning session will focus on teaching handwriting to ALL learners, with an emphasis on strategies and interventions. Research shows that there is a clear link between handwriting and literacy development, however, the time spent on classroom instruction of this important skill is limited. Children who learn to form letters properly have more success in reading and spelling than those who do not receive instruction and practice. Transcription skills are an integral component of R.I.S.E. and are included in the ELA standards. The goal of this presentation is for educational professionals, including related service professionals, to leave with the instructional strategies and resources to support handwriting instruction in the classroom. The DESE Office of Special Education is committed to making our events accessible to everyone. If you require accommodations, please contact Bethany Compton (bethany.compton@esrss.org) as soon as possible.
