Participants in this course, will learn evidence-based practices to increase the success of the vocabulary interventions they provide to children of all ages. They will consider how people learn words, how word learning changes over developmental time, and how vocabulary and reading are related. They will explore intervention in detail by discussing goal selection, teaching strategies, useful resources, and instructional contexts.
Karla McGregor, PhD is a Professor Emerita in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa, an Honorary Professor on the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney, and a Senior Scientist at Boys Town National Research Hospital. She also serves as a member of the Language and Communication Study Section at the National Institutes of Health. Her research concerns word learning in children with developmental language disorders and other communication challenges.
