Advanced Placement:  An Opportunity for Teachers of Gifted Learners

- Audience:  administrators, teachers, counselors, curriculum directors and more!




The competencies that will be addressed are:

  • The ability to differentiate instruction based on student’s readiness, knowledge and skill level using accelerated content, complexity, depth challenge, creativity and abstractness.
  • The ability to select, adapt or create a variety of differentiated curricula that incorporate advanced conceptually challenging, in-depth, distinctive and complex content.
  • The ability to modify the learning process through strategies such as curriculum compacting, and to select alternative assignments and projects based on individual student needs.
  • The ability to select use and interpret technically sound formal and informal assessments for the purpose of academic decision making.

**Per the Ohio Department of Education, workshops offered by College Board that address gifted competencies may count towards this 30 hour requirement.


Important Session Information:


The Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides students with the opportunity to earn college credit, and can serve as a platform for gifted learners through academic rigor and enrichment opportunities. This three hour workshop helps to satisfy the professional development requirements outlined by the state of Ohio for AP teachers, by exploring differentiation and curriculum compacting to meet the needs of all students.

Participants will have the opportunity to share best practices for gifted learners in AP and discuss how course placement and other policies may impact options for students.

Speaker Info:  Dr. Rashida Savage, College Board Director, Midwest Region.  Over 15 years of experience in education, as an AP teacher, administrator and Director of Curriculum. PhD in Curriculum and Instruction. Superintendent Licensure. She has been with the College Board for close to 2 years.
