Why Do All of Our Gifted Students Look the Same?

Ensuring Equitable Access Through a Lens of Potential

- Audience:  K-12 Educators, Administrators, Counselors, and Psychologists

Participants will:

  • explore the characteristics of underrepresented populations of gifted students.
  • examine traditional and non-traditional assessment measures for gifted identification.
  • review sample assessment data and student case study.
  • develop an individualized student action plan.
  • identify next steps for classroom/district implementation.

Important Session Information:

Giftedness does not belong to any one group. It encompasses every race, gender, socio-economic status, and every category of person that we impose upon the human race! The homogenous configuration of students that we tend to see represented in our nation's gifted programs is perfectly aligned to our flawed views of what constitutes "intelligence" and the tools that we use to "measure" it!

In this workshop participants will examine the characteristics of underrepresented populations of gifted students and the potential barriers to identification and services. They will engage in courageous conversations about the current state of affairs in gifted practices and programming. Educators will participate in hands-on training on how to utilize non-traditional methods for screening and assessment. Register to join a passionate cohort of educators as we challenge one another to view ALL students through a "lens of potential" and increase diversity in gifted education!

Register a team of 4 or more for a discounted fee of $109 each person.  Use promocode teamof4 each time a person registers.
