- Audience: Educators, Administrators, School Counselors, Social Workers, School Psychologists

  • Identify the role prevention play in protecting the mental well of students, staff and families.
  • Learn strategies to implement prevention in your school.
  • Learn how to turn existing prevention practices into best practices.
  • Identify local low to no cost prevention program opportunities available in your area.

Important Session Information:

Did you know?

  • Each year 1 in 6 children ages 6-17 experience a mental health disorder.
  • 16% of students consider attempting suicide.
  • The number of high school students turning to tobacco use has increased from 19.5% in 2017 to 36.5% in 2019.

Given this sobering data and the impact of current social situations on the health and wellness of our students, a great spotlight has been placed on the health and wellness of both students and staff.

Are you interested in how to support today’s learners in avoiding risky behaviors? Are you wondering how to help students learn healthy coping mechanisms, or where to go for help if some are exhibiting worrisome behaviors?

Schools play a critical role in protecting the health and safety of young people and help them establish life-long coping skills and behaviors. We are not only charged with providing academic education, but to support with the mental, emotional and behavioral development of our students.

In part one of this three-part series, we will review the continuum of care for mental, emotional and behavioral development, explore how the models of prevention fit into the MTSS (multi-tiered system of support) and gain familiarity with the 6 strategies of prevention planning. In addition, local mental health professionals will join us to explore supports that already exist in your community.

Follow up sessions will focus on analyzing schoolwide data to create and implement appropriate prevention planning, explore funding mechanisms that will support schools in this work, assessing your community for readiness of prevention efforts and change leadership models that will focus on overcoming barriers to health and wellness.

Participants are not required to attend all three parts of the series.  Registration for each module is separate.

All dates and times listed are identical offerings of the first module.

Sessions listed are free to participants thanks to funding provided by the Ohio Department of Education.

Registered participants will receive a Zoom link and password prior to the event.
