Let's Play, Learn, and Grow Together: Using Group Games to Support Executive Function and Self-Regulation
Seats Filled: 40 / 40
Location:Crestview Baptist Church, Crestview Baptist Church

Important Breakout Information:

PRESENTER: KENNETH SHERMAN

Executive function skills are crucial building blocks for the early development of both cognitive and social capacities.  These cognitive skills lay the foundation for how young children will continue their learning and development in each stage of their life.  One such message is that simple group games and songs provide a good avenue for developing these skills.  In this workshop, the components of executive function and self-regulation will be discussed as an overview, followed by practical classroom activities and strategies that teachers can implement to support the development of self-regulation in young children.

Unveiling the Silent Signs: The Role of Play in Identifying Learning Differences
Seats Filled: 40 / 40
Location:Crestview Baptist Church, Crestview Baptist Church

Important Breakout Information:

PRESENTER: AMY CUSHNER

The ancient philosopher Plato once said, "You can learn more about a man in an hour of play than an hour of conversation."  This profound statement underscores the idea that behavior, interactions, and actions often reveal more about an individual than words alone.  When applied to children, particularly those at risk for learning differences, play becomes a window into their unique cognitive, social, and emotional worlds.  Through play, we can observe behaviors, learning styles, and challenges that may not be as readily apparent in more formal settings.  This insight is critical for early identification and intervention, offering an opportunity to support children before difficulties become entrenched.

Highlights:

Play as a Natural Reflection of Learning Early Intervention through Play-Based Observations

Creating a Supportive Environment

Ultimately, by embracing the importance of play, we create a world where children at risk for learning differences are not only seen but understood, and where early intervention becomes a pathway to success.

Important Breakout Information:

PRESENTER:  ANISSA MOORE

Wanna know more about how to "grow" your children's brain functions while they have fun?  Then this session is for you!  Executive functioning skills are the cognitive, "brain-based" skills that help children make decisions, start and finish tasks, organize their actions, and self-regulate their emotions.  These skills are trainable, and a great way to enhance EF skills is through the act of play.  Participants will learn the critical components of executive functioning skills and deficits, analyze play structures and activities in their learning environment, and expand supports and strategies in play time to enhance developmentally-appropriate practices.  Ready to play?  Hooray!
