2017/2018 Child Nutrition Summer Workshop - Farm Fresh Initiative: Garden- based, Learning/Local Products Challenge, Farm Fresh Introduction, and Procuring Local Foods for CN Programs
Share
The Texas Department of Agriculture created Farm Fresh initiative to connect Texans all across the Lone Star State to agriculture and local farmers and ranchers. The goal is to increase community collaborations, promote healthy lifestyles and improve the Texas economy. Garden-based learning also connects kids back to Texas agriculture and introduces them to new foods. Research has shown that when children are involved in the planting and growing process they are more willing to taste these foods. Procuring your local foods properly will be essential to maintaining program integrity and staying in compliance.
