Fourth/Fifth Grade Literacy Achievement Academies
Share
The Literacy Achievement Academies provide research-based methods for reading and writing instruction across the content areas. These instructional methods are based on decades of research findings indicating that all aspects of reading and writing must be taught explicitly and systematically to be effective. The academies are grounded in the language and literacy principles in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), including effective instruction in phonological awareness, handwriting, phonics, spelling, morphological awareness, automatic word recognition, fluency, vocabulary, syntax, listening and reading comprehension, the writing process, and writing and reading across genres (informational and literary). The academies are intended to support teachers as they work to develop background knowledge, instructional strategies, and methods for differentiating instruction based on individual students' needs.
