Targeting Domain 3: Evidence-based Literacy Strategies to Close Achievement Gaps
Share
Measures over the past 30 years indicate that fewer minority students were considered proficient in reading, and these same students scored lower on standardized tests when compared to their non-minority peers (U.S. Department of Education, 2007; Zajda, 2009). This training focuses on reading comprehension strategies, explicit vocabulary instruction, culturally responsive pedagogy and teaching for academic success. This training is tailored towards district- or campus-level administrators, instructional coaches, and/or teachers. During this course, the participants will explore ways to develop culturally responsive teaching practices, learn specific strategies for teaching comprehension, and their knowledge on explicit vocabulary instruction.
