The ESC, Region 2 is pleased to host Code.org for the new Computer Science (CS) Fundamentals workshop, covering the updated A-F courses. Teachers will receive copies of the Code.org printed curriculum guide, computer science resources, a Code Studio teacher online account and student online coding accounts, a teacher kit to teach the computer science fundamentals courses, and even some free Code.org swag/goodies.
The CS Fundamentals curriculum is implemented within Code Studio, an online education platform. This curriculum consists of multiple courses, each of which has about 20 lessons that may be implemented as one unit or over the course of a semester. By the end of each course, students create interactive games or stories that they can share with anyone. The courses are flexible, too, so educators can adjust them based on their students’ developmental level and prior experience. Various "unplugged" activities are also included. Lessons align to technology and computer science standards as well as reinforce concepts and skills taught in other core subject areas.
Elementary teachers, tech specialists, instructional coaches, librarians, after-school instructors, and principals are encouraged to attend. Middle school educators with students who have no prior exposure to computer coding may also participate in the workshop.
Presented by Vanessa Jones, Code.org facilitator.
