Addition and Subtraction Computation Strategies, Grades 2-5

I can do it, but I can't explain it...this workshop teaches addition and subtraction computational strategies teachers could use to help bring a real understanding of number relationships and the meaning behind the math for their students. These strategies can be viewed as the bridge students need to develop conceptual and procedural understandings that help lead to fluency and number sense. For students in the upper grades, these can be used as intervention strategies for those students who continue to struggle with the standard algorithm. Teachers will engage in multiple computation strategies for addition and subtraction. They will have the opportunity to practice applying the strategies to STAAR released items. This workshop also models Number Talks. Teachers will share their thinking about how they solved a problem using the strategies with the group.
