Academic Vocabulary professional learning will focus on the key components of explicit vocabulary instruction utilizing academic vocabulary for middle school teachers. The professional learning will address the steps of effective vocabulary instruction, word parts, identify which words to teach, implement an interactive word wall, and assess word knowledge utilizing a continuum. It will engage teachers in vocabulary games and strategies that are in the STAAR Vocabulary Kit. Teachers will leave knowing how to utilize these components to plan effective vocabulary instruction.
