Exploring Homeless Issues, Information and Updates

Homeless students in Region 3 and throughout the state continue to be on the rise. Academically, this instability seriously affects their academic achievement. This NET3 will address the current situation and review the requirements that school districts must meet when dealing with homeless students and their families. Any employee at an LEA that has the role of identifying, coding, or working with homeless students and their families should attend.

Important Session Information:

The identification and provision of services for homeless students is not only a state requirement but also is required in federal statute under ESSA.

This workshop presented by Tim Stahlke from the Texas Homeless Education Office (THEO) will provide an overview of homeless education including unaccompanied youth and identification procedures, provision of services, resources, and district responsibilities. Hurricane Harvey implications will also be addressed.

Homeless liaisons or their representatives should attend, as well as any person who does the coding for homeless students.
