Environmental Science
Estuaries in the Classroom

These sessions will focus on earth science concepts as part of the life science strands in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

Important Session Information:

Everyone loves the ocean, and most people know the ocean through their experiences at the shore. These are often in or near an estuary, yet few can even define the word if asked. Human activities such as filling wetlands, armoring the shoreline, and discharging wastewater have seriously impacted the integrity of coastal ecosystems. This workshop will help you teach what estuaries are, how they are related to terrestrial and ocean systems, what important services they provide for humans, and how to restore and protect them. TEKS-correlated curriculum and support materials will be received.
