Connecting the State Writing Rubric to Effective Instruction





This professional development session will explore the dimensions and descriptors of the STAAR writing rubrics. Participants will explore essential writing concepts embedded in the rubrics' criteria. Participants will examine rubrics across grade levels and within a grade level to better understand the alignment of writing expectations. Additionally, participants will be given suggested activities that correspond to the explicit teaching of rubric concepts, as well as ideas for differentiating the writing rubrics, such as chunking and student-friendly checklists based on the rubrics.
