Non-oral
communicators rely on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) that may
include a continuum of high to low tech communication tools and core vocabulary.
These systems are most effective when used in all environments at every
available opportunity. Transitioning AAC skills from functional communication
in the educational environment to formal academic instruction can be
challenging. This intermediate session assumes a solid knowledge base of core
vocabulary use and implementation. Participants will take it to the next level
by exploring how to use core vocabulary to promote literacy development and
academic growth related to reading, writing, math, and science.
