The Focus of this workship is on PODD (Pragmatic Organization of Dynamic Displays) communication books designed for individuals who cannot point directly to a display with their hands. This session is designed for a variety of participants, including: speech language pathologists, teachers, parents, and professionals specializing in AAC. The content will build on the information relating to the purpose, design principles, intervention strategies, and use of PODD communication books covered in the two-day introductory workshop.
**It is a requirement that attendees have completed the two-day PODD introductory workshop as a prerequisite for this course. Participants are encouraged to bring their original PODD introductory manual (The manual received during the 2-day introductory PODD training course). The manual will be utilized throughout the day. We will not be handing out a duplicate manual.
A range of alternative access PODD communication books will be discussed including: eye-gaze (eye-pointing), partner-assisted scanning (visual, auditory, visual plus auditory scanning), combination access, and coded access. The design features to suit, procedures to operate and teach each access method will be presented. Participants will have the opportunity to practice using each access method. This session will not cover the electronic PODD.
