Culturally Responsive Practices for Underrepresented Youth
Cohort 1 and Cohort 2





Studies show that the use of culturally responsive practices can have a profoundly positive impact on the achievement and behavior of our African American and Latino students. Join us as we immerse ourselves into learning and applying culturally responsive practices in our social studies classrooms. In this year-long cohort, teachers will become reflective practitioners who question their own personal biases and practices, explore relevant topics and evidence-based strategies, and apply these practices to their instruction. Teachers will engage in monthly workshops, networking opportunities and assignments that will enable them to be better able to interact, inspire, and address the needs of these underrepresented student groups.

Important Session Information:



This is a year-long learning opportunity designed specifically for social studies teachers that will take place between November 2018 - August 2019. Cohort members are expected to complete monthly assignments, attend online and face-to-face meetings, and attend the three day Region 4 Summer Institute. Face-to-face meetings will take place from 9am - 12pm on one Saturday in the months of November, December, February, and April. Virtual meetings will take place for one hour during the months of January, March, and May.
