Heritage Language Learners: Amplify and Extend Instruction in the LOTE Classroom

Explore what it means to be a heritage language learner of Spanish in the LOTE classroom. Consider the socio-linguistic needs, the role of proficiency, and best practices in the Spanish heritage language classroom. Analyze the factors that influence language proficiency and use these as starting points for sequencing curriculum and designing appropriate classroom instructional goals. Integrating research, best practices, and practical ideas, participants will delve into curriculum design focusing on the three modes of communication as a guiding tool. This session will be conducted mainly in Spanish with some English.
