This session will present key strategies and techniques required to effectively discern language difference from language disorder in African-American English speaking or non-mainstream English speaking children. Distinctions between linguistic varieties will be reviewed as well as morphosyntactic features often mistaken for indicators of language impairment. Formal evidence based as well as informal assessment techniques will be presented along with treatment strategies.
This session is a recording from two 3 hour live virtual presentations. Parts 1 and 2 combined contain 6 CE hours. Speech-language pathologists and SLP assistants must view both parts in their entirety to obtain TSHA CE hours.
