Using cooking and science in language intervention increases the amount of complex sentence opportunities and conversation exchanges. Hands-on science group activities support brain-based learning, promote spontaneous communication, are fun, relevant and engaging, save time by modifying the same lesson across grade levels, naturally elicit more complex language without even trying to, serve as great extension activities for shared-reading, support functional life skills and help drive intervention planning for the school year.
Participants will walk away with a year-full of engaging language activities rooted in evidenced based practice. "On an everyday level, science helps students understand their natural world. STEM education, including science, helps students develop problem-solving skills and critical analytical thinking abilities. Furthermore, learning science in preschool, elementary, and secondary education experiences may support future college and vocational training in a STEM-related field" (Jackson & Hanline, 2019).
