Life Skills Institute: Part II (blended)
Venue varies - see below

Learn key elements necessary for setting up and maintaining a life skills-type classroom for elementary - secondary students with significant cognitive disabilities. Part II is designed for teachers new to working in these programs (0-3 years of experience) or for teachers needing a refresher. Content includes practical activities and strategies for instruction in mathematics, challenging behaviors, ways to create a communication rich environment and supporting individual communication systems for students, community-based and community-referenced instruction, and working with paraprofessionals . The format for each of the 4 days of training varies. Days one and three of the series will be held on site at Region 4 where materials for the entire series will be provided. These days will not be recorded or available via zoom. Days two and four will be held virtually/live via the zoom platform. These days will be recorded and recordings made available for 2 weeks after each session. Both onsite and live/virtual sessions will be from 9 am – 3 pm. It is strongly suggested to secure coverage for classroom responsibilities in order to effectively engage with the virtual/live sessions. Session and materials costs are partially funded through state or federal grants.

The Life Skills Institute: Part I will be held prior to Part II and requires separate registration. It is recommended to complete the two-part series but not required.
