Learn a positive view and approach to conflict as an opportunity to clarify various perspectives and engage the team in productive problem-solving, with the ultimate goal of helping the child succeed in their education. You will explore potential conflicts for OT, PT and Speech Practitioners in school-based practice. The presenter will also discuss resources for resolving conflicts, such as federal and state laws and regulation, state practice acts and licensure requirements, AOTA, APTA and ASHA Codes of Ethics , and your local district’s policies and procedures. The presenter will walk you through a practical 5-Step Conflict Resolution Model to help you prepare and resolve conflicts in your next IEP meeting. Finally, you will receive information on deciding your goal for conflict resolution (e.g., accommodation, collaboration, compromise, control or avoidance). Multiple familiar case scenarios will be utilized to help you apply what you learned.
Participants who sign up for the session will be provided information on how to access online training that is delivered asynchronously. This training is made available through a collaborative effort involving Region 4 ESC, regional ESCs, and ApplyEBP. When a participant's attendance is recorded in the Region 4 escWorks system, it signifies that they have received an email containing instructions for registering for the asynchronous online training via the ApplyEBP system.
This session is specifically tailored for Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists employed in public schools. Important Note: Successful completion of the training offered by ApplyEBP will result in the participant receiving information about AOTA, TPTA, ASHA credits as appropriate directly from ApplyEBP.
