Learn the fundamentals of dyslexia intervention through a review of Texas dyslexia laws and current research, as well as best practices in dyslexia instruction. Delve into evidence-based components of instruction and explore continuums for developing reading ability in students with dyslexia. Learn how to deliver daily intervention utilizing Reading by Design, a systematic, explicit, and intensive reading program. Participants will receive the entire Reading by Design program with supplemental resources necessary for small group instruction.
This course requires attendance for 5 full days of training. The class meets each day for half the day. In addition, there is an assignment to be completed before the first day of class. For each half day in class, there is a minimum of 3 hours of additional work outside of class.
Earning a certificate for this course requires participants to successfully complete all assignments on time and pass a practicum model lesson. Participants have a limited number of attempts to pass the practicum.
*Please note- Within two days of registration, participants must submit a physical mailing address (no PO boxes) using the Google Form link you receive in your confirmation for this course. This address must be submitted a minimum of 10 business days prior to the first training date to ensure material delivery. If the mailing address is not received, participants will have to pick up materials at Region 4 or risk being dropped from the course, as materials are necessary for the training. Participants without materials will be removed from the course with a cancellation fee.
