Dr. Caroline Musselwhite will share tried and true strategies for engaging and growing your emergent writers, including how to support topic selection and writing for multiple purposes. Both light-tech and high-tech tools will be demonstrated. With the right alternative pencil, the right activities, and the right feedback, it is possible for students with complex communication needs and cortical visual impairments to become generative writers. This session will provide participants with what they need to get started with writing with their students! Participants will participate in two Maker events and multiple try-it activities. They will also have access to a Dropbox of additional materials including plans for more Maker writing activities. Session and materials costs are partially funded through state and/or federal grants.

- Participants will summarize at least 3 activities for generative writing throughout the day for emergent learners, including students with complex communication needs and/or CVI.
