Assistive Technology and 3D Printing





This training will promote an understanding of the benefits in creating assistive technology tools to enhance life and education. In this session, participants will gain a foundational understanding of 3D printers and explore real world applications for use in a special education setting. Participants will label and compare different materials that can be used in making 3D objects and list safety considerations when using 3D printers to make these personalized AT tools.  Online resources will be explored to discover premade, printable, digital files.  Although this training will be utilizing the Ultimaker Brand 3D printer for hands on exploration and demonstration, principles are not product specific and can be applied to any 3D printer available to the participant.

Important Session Information:



This training will promote an understanding of the benefits of creating assistive technology tools to enhance life and education and how to do so using the Ultimaker S5 3D printer. In this session, participants will gain an understanding of the Ultimaker 3D printer including proper care and use. Participants will identify real-world applications for use of 3D printed materials in a special education setting and how to locate and customize print files including creating customized keyguards and Bliss symbols. Attending this session will allow the participant to check out the Ultimaker 3D printer for short-term loans from the ATRC. Session costs and materials partially funded by state or federal grants.
