Assistive Technology and 3D Printing
3D-Printed Keyguards: Your Gateway to 3D-Printed Assistive Technology

This training will promote an understanding of the benefits in creating assistive technology tools to enhance life and education. In this session, participants will gain a foundational understanding of 3D printers and explore real world applications for use in a special education setting. Participants will label and compare different materials that can be used in making 3D objects and list safety considerations when using 3D printers to make these personalized AT tools.  Online resources will be explored to discover premade, printable, digital files.  Although this training will be utilizing the Ultimaker Brand 3D printer for hands on exploration and demonstration, principles are not product specific and can be applied to any 3D printer available to the participant.

Region 4 does not endorse one product over any other product. Session costs and materials partially funded by state or federal grants.

Important Session Information:

This workshop will focus on using the popular Volksswitch keyguard designer to define custom and personalized keyguards that you can inexpensively 3D print. You will gain detailed, hands-on experience with all aspects of the designer, fostering confidence and skill, and receive support in designing a keyguard for one of your own AAC systems.

Attending this session will allow the participant to check out the Ultimaker 3D printer for short-term loans from the ATRC. Session costs and materials partially funded by state or federal grants.
