Functional Communication- Setting Students Up for Success

This session equips educators with strategies to cultivate strong functional communication skills in their students. We will explore the importance of targeted vocabulary, identify daily opportunities for communication practice, and discover ways to adapt the classroom environment for optimal learning.

Learning Objectives:

  1. The Power of Purposeful Words: Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how choosing functional vocabulary supports effective communication across various situations.
  2. Communication in Action: We will delve into identifying opportunities throughout the school day for practicing different communication functions (e.g., requesting, refusing, expressing needs). Educators will explore strategies for modeling versatile vocabulary in these contexts.
  3. Building a Communication-Friendly Space: Discover practical methods for adapting the classroom environment to promote communication interactions and foster literacy skills.

Join us for an interactive session where you will gain valuable tools to empower your students as confident communicators!

Session and materials are partially funded through grant funds.
