With the passing of Senate Bill 179, school counselors have been given more opportunities to provide direct services to students. In this interactive session, participants will learn specific strategies that can be used by school counselors from all grade levels to provide brief counseling sessions. Through modeling and role-playing, counselors will learn how to utilize treatment planning as a therapeutic approach that can assist students in resolving conflicts, removing obstacles, and gaining self-acceptance.
The participants will be able to:
- Describe suitable counseling techniques and other considerations that affect conducting brief counseling in school settings.
- Describe approaches to formation, including recruiting, screening, and selecting students.
- Identify guidelines for individual work with children and adolescents.
- Apply needed counseling skills that can be used for working with at-risk youth.
