Trainings: Session Detail

Fentanyl Awareness and Current Drug Trends

Fentanyl Awareness presented by a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) representative:

The fentanyl crisis is the deadliest crisis facing America today and school campuses are not immune to its presence and effects.  In this session you will learn what fentanyl is, why it is an issue today, what it looks like, and how it is used. In addition, the speaker will discuss what kind of responses may be required on campuses, what the effects on a person look like, drug paraphernalia identification, naloxone (Narcan) use, and more.

Nurses Educating on Illegal Drugs & Synthetics (NEIDS Outreach) presented by a nurse from UMC Health System:

The presentation will cover current trends that medical professionals are seeing in the ER, including synthetic drugs, such as synthetic marijuana, bath salts and flakka. It will address how drug use has progressed through vaping along with the dangers of vaping in general and how many of our youth are being accidently exposed to deadly drugs through vaping. You will learn about drugs that can be purchased at your local convenience store and how over-the-counter drugs can be used as potentiators.

Lastly, what we can do to protect our communities from the dangers of fentanyl will be discussed.
