Participants will learn the fundamentals of dyslexia intervention through a review of Texas dyslexia laws and current research, as well as best practices in dyslexia instruction. We will delve into evidence-based components of instruction and explore continuums for developing reading ability in students with dyslexia. Participants will learn how to deliver daily intervention utilizing Reading by Design, a multisensory, systematic, explicit, and intensive reading program designed for students with dyslexia.
Teachers attending these five days will receive the entire Reading by Design program with supplemental resources necessary for small group instruction.
Earning a certificate for this course requires participants to attend all five training dates, successfully complete all assignments on time, and pass a practicum model lesson in order to be able to implement RbD. Participants have a limited number of attempts to pass the practicum. Make-up days are not available, so please be sure you are able to attend all dates. Total hours = 30
Reading by Design is for Region 16 public districts and charters at a discounted price of $300. Participants need a Purchase Order number to register. Space availability will be prioritized for district staff first. Non-public district staff are welcome to register if space is available. We are not able to offer the discounted price to non-district registration.
