Seeing the World in a Grain of Sand: Switching Scales to Teach Social Studies
Share
To teach social studies, sometimes we are like dogs, our noses buried in the small details of a specific time and place. Other times we are like birds, hovering high in the air looking for general patterns and themes. For students to get the full picture, we need to do both, or switch scales--the practice of zooming in and zooming out to better understand a topic. In this session, teachers will first focus on the importance of scale-switching, and then learn how to put the skill into practice in their classrooms. Come and learn now "to see the world in a grain of sand."
