Trainings: Session Detail

Nature Journals: Cultivating Creativity and Scientific Inquiry

How can you help students bring focus to every observation? Telling students to “look carefully” or “look hard” is not very helpful. Deep observation is a skill which must be learned. Developing this skill will change the way you and your students experience the world. During this session, teachers will learn techniques to enhance the experience of field sketching and extend students observations through writing prompts, probing questions and thinking by analogy. This session is designed to start with a process for teaching basic elements of drawing through observation. This hybrid session consists of one day face-to-face which will lay the groundwork for how to create the journals and a field investigation component where teachers will sketch and share additional journal pages online. A total of 16 journal pages will be completed.
