Trainings: Session Detail

Conferring with Readers Collaborative Book Study

Learning is inherently social. We know the benefits of taking time to engage with colleagues to clarify and enrich the craft of teaching. Through this collaborative book study, we will see how to confer well with readers and why a few moments talking with students every week can put them on the path to becoming better, more independent readers. During the reading workshop, reading conferences are the critical, one-to-one teaching method that forms the backbone of instruction. Participants will receive the book Conferring with Readers: Supporting Each Students Growth & Independence by Jennifer Serravallo & Gravity Goldberg. This book is a comprehensive guide that shows how to determine what readers have learned, what they need to practice, and then provides suggestions for targeting instruction to meet students’ needs. This session will follow a blended learning model starting with day one as a face to face day, followed by participants choice of online collaboration or a second day of face to face.
