K-2 Balanced Literacy Boot Camp Day 5: Balanced Literacy is about Connections! EIEIO!

With a connection here and a connection there. Here a connection, there a connection, everywhere a another connection! Focusing on modeling and prompting word study connections for our students will help connections become a reality for our kids! We will spend the morning learning how to embed encoding and decoding into our Balanced Literacy framework. Word Study is a component that needs to be taught explicitly at times, but we also need to purposefully plan to help students make connections into their daily reading and writing. Simple daily practices can make a huge impact on a student's understanding of the application of these standards. The afternoon will be spent thinking about connecting all of our Boot Camp knowledge through anchors for our students. We will focus on a weekly plan to incorporate all of the balanced literacy components for a balanced approach.
