Six Syllable Types & Morphology: Applications for Reading grades 3-8




This session will provided information about the six syllable types including letter-sound relationships to decode regular words in text independent of context and use common syllabication patterns to decode words. In addition, teachers will learn how their students can apply these syllable types across reading and comprehension. Then in the afternoon, participants will examine how morphology, including the identification, analysis, and application of the structure of words, can help students read and comprehend text. Participants will leave with activities and strategies to help students unlock the meaning of unknown and unfamiliar words.
