Meal Patterns (SNP)




The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act requires school meals to reflect the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (Dietary Guidelines). Minimum standards for school meals are essential to help ensure that all schools nationwide follow uniform, science-based standards to deliver wholesome meals in the most efficient and effective way. Minimum nutrition standards also support Child Nutrition Program integrity and the responsible use of taxpayers’ money by ensuring that children are offered wholesome foods that optimize their health and academic achievement while minimizing the risk of long-term chronic diseases.
