Foundations of Behavior: Understanding the Why Behind Student Behavior

When educators understand the factors that influence student behavior, they are better equipped to respond proactively, strengthen relationships, and create classrooms where students feel supported, engaged, and ready to learn.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the A-B-C model of behavior and how antecedents and consequences influence student actions

  • Recognize how developmental stages impact student behavior and expectations

  • Identify the role of positive teacher-student relationships in supporting behavior and engagement

  • Apply foundational behavior principles to respond more effectively to student behavior in the classroom.
